Cattleya dowiana f. aurea ‘Hsinying’ x self, 5.5” Basket, blooming size

The aurea form typically has larger flowers than standard dowiana, including a different scent. Cattleya dowiana aurea likes less light than most Cattleya, particularly in the summer months. In winter months they go semi-dormant and need less water without fertilizer and less potting medium.

The C. dowiana arrived in packaging that contained no plastic. The plant was a bit larger than i anticipated. Its leaves were long and just the right hue of green, and there were no blemishes. The roots were fat and hydrated despite four days in the mail. Alongside its nine leaves, there are two new pseudobulbs surfacing in the potting medium. I hope to enjoy years of delightful flowers from this plant.

much nicer than was expecting for the price.  a lot of roots and looks like it will bloom soon.
