What does "Avail. to ship to you after..." mean?

Some plants are listed with an "Avail. to ship to you..." date.
These plants are coming into stock but will not be ready/available to
ship to you until AFTER the date listed.

Example: "Avail. to ship to you after 5/26" = Expect your order to ship within 1-2 weeks after May 26th.

Orchid Terms to know;
  • Mounted = The orchid will be attached/mounted on a piece of wood for hanging.
  • Potted = Shipped in a pot.
  • Bare Root = Shipped bare root, no pot, no bark, no soil.
  • Basket = Potted in a plastic net basket.
  • In Spike = A plant that set a flower spike or inflorescence that will produce flower buds.
  • In Bud = This plant has a bloom spike (inflorescence) with developed buds showing.
  • In Bloom = This plant will have only open blooms, will not have buds.
  • In Sheath = This orchid blooms from 'sheaths' with emerge first, then the flower buds grow inside the sheath. "In Sheath" means this plant is in the first stages of potentially beginning a bloom cycle.
  • Tight Bud = 3-4 weeks away from flower open
  • Medium Bud = 2-3 weeks from flower open
  • Mature or Fat Bud = a few days to 1-2 weeks from flower open
  • Open Flower = Flower spike has at least 1 flower open
  • Half Open = Half of the flowers open
  • Fully Blown open = 80-100% of the flowers open
  • Inflorescence = An inflorescence of an orchid is the stem from which the blooms grow.
  • Species = Non-Hybridized Orchids, found naturally in nature.
  • Hybrid = Not naturally found in nature.
  • Cold Hardy = Terrestrial Orchid, grown in colder regions, outdoors, can tolerate temperatures below freezing
  • Epiphyte = Grows/Growing non-parasitically on another plant or other surface not on the ground, typically trees.
  • Terrestrial = Grows/Growing in soil/in the ground.
  • Flask = Orchid seeds are typically cultivated in a glass container (incubator) at a lab where they begin to grown.
  • Compot = Once they have grown in a flask, they are then moved to a compot/s where the entire group of seedlings grow together, outside the bottled environment. Once they are begin to establish, they are then taken individually and each placed in a plug tray.
  • Plug = Orchids from compot are individually placed in "plug trays" (trays with little plug openings for growing and to become established.
  • Established seedling = recently out of "plug" stage. Established seedling just means they now have well established roots and do not necessarily need special care. They've rooted from their plug tray, but they are still baby plants.
  • Not Blooming size = Well established orchid but at least a year from blooming size.
  • Non-Bloom (NB) = plant that is not in a flowering stage.
  • Near Blooming Size (NBS) = still maturing & growing but is roughly 6 months to 2 years away from flowering
  • Blooming size (BS) = A plant that is not yet setting a flower spike or bud...but is of size to flower soon. This is also a NON-BLOOM plant.
  • Pre-Order = Place your order in advance. Shipping date is at a later time, pre-determined.
  • v./var. = variation, a variation in the species.
  • f./form = form, a form of a species.
  • 4" Nursery pots are 4" tall and approx. 3.5" across. The industry standard references them as 4" and we follow this practice.
