Quantity in Stock:46

2" Pots. These are basically going to grow like long blades of grass, then the bloom spike will emerge and be approx. 12" tall.
As of 4/23 these are approx. 1"-1.5" tall growing in their special soil mix. Buying them at this size doesn't guarantee blooming this year as we cannot control your growing conditions. These are blooming size and have all bloomed previously. If you're concerned about the size at this time, we'd suggest you wait until the plants are bigger.
As of 4/12 they are showing growth above the soil.
As of 4/8 we are planting them and they show signs of growth but have not emerged from the soil.
Potting/Growing Tutorial from YouTube;

Habenaria radiata aka Pecteilis, a tuber type orchid (Corm) which is deciduous after blooming. These tubers are about the size of a pea, and grow like long grass. Don't fear their small size as they are blooming size. These are slow growers and will take many months to grow and flower. All of them we had last year, this size, flowered. We begin selling/shipping these when they are showing growth above the soil. The picture shown is what this size of plant produced for flowers last year. As they mature over the years, they will spread in clumps and produce more flowers. These orchids have very small, grass like growths which are narrow, slender and flimsy looking. Don't let this fool you as these little grass blades will produce nice flowers.

Growing Habenaria radiata (White Egret Flower)

A terrestrial Orchid native to Asia, Habenaria radiata produces exquisite white flowers on flower spikes that are generally 5-9 inches long, occasionally longer. The plants grow from fleshy tubers and produce strap-like, dark green leaves. They are slow to emerge in spring.

Light/Watering: Grow in full sun to partial shade. If there is insufficient rainfall, water to keep plants evenly moist, but not wet.

Fertilizer/Soil and pH: Habenaria grows best in well-drained, slightly acid soil rich in humus. Fertilize lightly with 10-20% of the recommended dosage of an all-purpose plant food once or twice as the flower shoots emerge.

Continuing Care: Mulch during the winter and remove the mulch in spring to allow for the plants to emerge. Where Habenaria is not winter hardy (Cold tolerant to Zone 4, Zone 5+ plants need to be brought indoors for winter), it can be grown in containers and brought indoors to a cold area for dormancy. In warmer climates, grow White Egret Flower in pots and give your plant three months of cold (30-35¡F or below) over the winter before putting back outside (dry soil or plants(corms) will rot and die).

Needs a rest during the winter, with minimal water during rest. Water in early spring for Spring/Summer blooming. Blooming size. Also known as the 'The Holy Spirit' Orchid.

Will not tolerate dry heat above 30 degrees Celsius.
In growth, will not tolerate even a day's worth of dryness.
In winter, must be dry, or bulbs will rot.
After blooming, plant will turn yellow and die back/off. This is natural as the plant must rest.

  • Pot Size: 2"
    Blooming Size: Yes
Light: Full Sun to Partial Shade
Temperature: Cold Tolerant to Zones 4, Zones 5+ these are not cold hardy and must be brought indoors.
Watering: Regular water, slightly dry between, long dry period in the Winter
    Origin: Japan, China, Russia, Korea

Habenaria purchase June 10, 2015

REPLY FROM S.O.; This review is a good example of what to expect with this plant.  This customer is not familiar with the species and these will ship/arrive 'wilted' looking.  They are a grass like orchid, and weak/wilted looking as a result of their natural growth.  These are not an easy orchid to grow and not for novice growers.  Please be sure to read all of the description and care suggestions.  Understand what it is you're buying.  This customers order is exactly as it should have been and as we expect.

CUSTOMER REVIEW; This plant arrived kind of wilted with a flower bud beginning. I tried to nurse it to a healthy state but I don't think I'm having any luck. I'm kind of disappointed because it looks like the plant is not going to recover and I'm past the seven days for returns. I should have returned it when the plant came in such a poor condition.

Habenaria radiata - Variegated Leave May 16, 2015
Reviewer: AI from Ames, IA United States
I am a fan of the Habenaria species and S.O. has a good collection of these plants. I am happy with my purchase of Habenaria radiata and Habenaria medusae.  The plants came in well packed, on time and undamaged. I am hoping that they bloom this year and generate more bulbs as over winter. I will purchase from S.O. again.

These plants are very "weak" and traveling doesn't like them much, however this plant came in perfect order and did not skip a beat I can already tell the plant responds to lights and is very healthy thank you!

I have received two orchids from your business.  When I opened the boxes, I was very pleased to see the size and quality of the plants.  They are beautiful.  The customer service I received with scheduling the delivery was great.  I will definitely be buying orchids from this business again.  Thank you.
